Largest gift in MSU College of Nursing history will fund building project

Timothy and Bernadette Marquez, through The Timothy and Bernadette Marquez Foundation, have committed $7 million to the Michigan State University College of Nursing.

The largest gift in the college’s history, the commitment will be used to help fund a new nursing addition to the MSU Life Sciences Building. More »

MSU and Detroit Symphony commission Wynton Marsalis piece

Nine-time Grammy Award-winning jazz musician Wynton Marsalis has been commissioned by the Michigan State University College of Music, MSU’s Wharton Center for Performing Arts and the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to create a new piece of music that celebrates Michigan.

The world premiere of the piece will be performed by Marsalis with the MSU Symphony Orchestra and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 24 in the Cobb Great Hall at the Wharton Center. The commission also will premiere in Detroit’s Orchestra Hall at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 27. More »


MSU honored by National Wildlife Federation for sustainability efforts

Michigan State University has been honored by one of the world’s foremost conservation organizations for its efforts to keep its campus “green.”

In its just-released Campus Environment 2008 Report Card, the National Wildlife Federation found that MSU not only has the greatest number of “exemplary programs” among colleges and universities within the state of Michigan, but it is also one of the top five campuses in the nation for such programs.

Report from NRC panel says public input good for environmental issues

When it comes to environmental issues – anything from cleaning up a polluted river to dealing with Superfund sites – public input, when handled correctly, can make the process smoother and lead to better outcomes, says a new report from a National Research Council panel that was chaired by a Michigan State University researcher.

The panel that issued the report was chaired by Thomas Dietz, an MSU professor of sociology and crop and soil sciences and director of the university’s Environmental Science and Policy Program. More »


MSU programs rank among nation’s elite

Michigan State University’s fast-growing study abroad, student volunteer and residential college programs are considered national leaders in the latest U.S. News & World Report rankings.

The 2009 edition of “America’s Best Colleges,” which hits newsstands Aug. 25, also ranks the Eli Broad College of Business at No. 25 among business schools and five of the college's undergraduate specialty programs in the top 15 in their respective categories. More »
