EAST LANSING, Mich. - For her work to overcome language barriers in health care and her ongoing support to MSU, MSU College of Nursing alumna Michelle Scott has been selected to receive the Michigan State University Alumni Service Award.
Scott, a 1995 graduate of the MSU College of Nursing's bachelor program, has been selected by the MSU Alumni Association Awards Committee to receive the award. It will be presented at the group's awards ceremony on Oct. 15 at the Kellogg Center.
Scott, who also received her master's degree in sociology from MSU in 2004, began Voices for Health in Grand Rapids in 1997. She is chief executive officer of the group, which is a non-partisan, interpretation and translation organization whose mission is to improve the quality of life and care for patients and families in need of medical treatment. More than 100 languages are available to meet the patients' needs.
In 2007, the National Institutes of Health awarded the company four awards, and Voices for Health has received a number of other awards such as the "2003 Small Business of the Year Award" from the Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce.
Advance registration is required to attend the ceremony. For more details, call the MSU Alumni Association at (517) 355-8314.
