In every position she has held at Michigan State University, Vivianne Robinson, director of human resources, recruitment and training for University Advancement, has strived to make a difference.

Robinson has worked at MSU for 26, the last three of which have been in her current position, where she identifies ideal employees who are passionate about advancing the work of the university. Knowing her position requires “friend raising” to sustain MSU, Robinson enjoys feeling that her work contributes to reaching the overall goals of the university.

“The rewarding part of my job is feeling like I make a difference,” Robinson said. “In any position I’ve been in with the university, I have to feel like I’m making a difference.”

Aside from working at MSU, for five years Robinson has served as a selection committee member for the Jack Breslin Distinguished Staff Awards. She describes the committee as a group of very passionate individuals who enjoy honoring those who go the extra mile.

“I’d have to say that of all the committees I’ve been on with the university, this one is really the most rewarding in that it gives us an opportunity to recognize employees who are not only doing what is expected, but those who are stand-outs in the crowd,” Robinson said.
