As Michigan State University gears up for the last home football game of the 2009 season on Nov. 21, Sally Nogle, associate head athletic trainer, is preparing student athletes for the game.
Nogle began working with the Athletics Department in 1983 and has worked her way up. Over the years, she has spent an increasing amount of time with the football program, even beyond football season.
“Sports over the years have gotten so much more evolved that now I spend all my time with football,” Nogle said. “I do help oversee field hockey and tennis but primarily I spend my days with the football team.”
Nogle stumbled upon athletic training as a career choice because she wanted to work in health care but also had a passion for sports. At the time, athletic training was a new field so she has watched it develop over the years as a profession.
“I’ve been very fortunate to grow with the profession because I started pretty early and it’s worked out very well,” she said.
Helping MSU student athletes recover from injuries to get them back to doing what they love – and knowing she made a difference – is the most rewarding aspect of the job, Nogle said.
