Dorothy L. Byrd, 86, food service worker at the Brody Cafe, of Eaton Rapids, died September 11. Byrd joined the staff in 1961 and retired in 1988. Her husband, Walter Byrd, survives.

Herbert Bergman, 84, professor emeritus of american thought and language, of East Lansing, died August 31. Bergman joined the faculty in 1958 and retired in 1997. His wife, Elaine Bergman, survives.

Marion Jennette, 90, secretary for the office of institutional research, of Sarasota, FL, died August 16. Jennette joined the staff in 1964 and retired in 1981.

Joan McKeown, 91, supervisor with MSU Extension, of Marquette, died January 21, 2005. McKeown joined the staff in 1957 and retired in 1987.

Owen H. Jorgensen, 81, professor emeritus of music, of Gaylord, died August 7. Jorgensen joined the faculty in 1960 and retired in 1994. His wife, Barbara Jorgensen, survives.

Barnett Rosenberg, a former Michigan State University professor of chemistry whose development of the anti-cancer drug cisplatin saved countless lives, died Aug. 8. He was 82.
