Faculty and administrators participating in leadership and teaching fellowship programs

Eighteen Michigan State University faculty members and administrators are participating in leadership and teaching fellowship programs for 2009-10.

Six individuals named as Committee on Institutional Cooperation Academic Leadership Program, or CIC-ALP, fellows are:

  • Melissa Baumann, associate dean, Honors College, and associate professor of chemical engineering and materials science, College of Engineering
  • Jan Collins-Eaglin, director of the MSU Counseling Center
  • Sheila Contreras, director of Chicano and Latino Studies and associate professor of writing, rhetoric and American cultures, College of Arts and Letters
  • Sanjay Gupta, chairperson of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems and the Russell E. Palmer Endowed Professor in Accounting, Eli Broad College of Business
  • Mark Notman, executive director of administrative services in the College of Osteopathic Medicine and associate professor, osteopathic surgical specialties
  • Cheryl Sisk, director of the neuroscience program and professor of psychology, College of Social Science

MSU’s CIC-ALP fellows are among the 74 from the 12 CIC research universities who will take part in programs providing a greater awareness and understanding of the complex nature of a research university. Fellows participate in three off-campus seminars as well as regular discussions with key on-campus administrators and faculty. MSU is hosting the first seminar of the year Sept. 24-26.

The program, now in its 21st year, gives individuals interested in, or just beginning an academic administrative role, an opportunity to learn about leadership and administrative topics with MSU administrators.

Applications for 2009-2010 fellowships are due by Feb. 11, 2010.

The 12 Executive Leadership Academy, or ELA, fellows are:

  • Dan Chegwidden, director of planned giving, University Advancement
  • Mike Cook, senior associate director, Office of Admissions
  • Karen Crosby, chief financial officer, College of Human Medicine
  • John Gerlach, director of the Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics Program and professor of physiology, College of Human Medicine
  • Cynthia Ghering, director of the University Archives and Historical Collections (Libraries, Computing and Technology)
  • Alan Haller, 1st Lt., MSU Police
  • Ron Harichandran, chairperson and professor of civil and environmental engineering, College of Engineering
  • Janet Lillie, professor and assistant dean in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences
  • Guy Procopio, director of culinary services, Division of Residential and Hospitality Services
  • Corinne Reardon, budget and personnel officer in the Office of the Provost
  • Jeff Riedinger, dean of International Studies and Programs
  • Donald Sefcik, associate dean, College of Osteopathic Medicine and professor of family and community medicine

The nine-month program includes participation in a 10-week leadership program at the nationally recognized Center for Creative Leadership, and taking part in a series of campus-facilitated discussions and leadership seminars on selected topics.

The CIC/ALP program is sponsored by the Office of Faculty and Organizational Development in the Office of the Provost and the ELA program is co-sponsored by the Office of Faculty and Organizational Development and MSU Human Resources.
