Musical duo Michael and Carrie Kline, who for more than 30 years have been studying and chronicling the history and culture of Appalachia, will perform a concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at MSU.
The concert will be held in the Residential College in the Arts and Humanities Theater, located in Snyder Hall.
The Klines are guests of the college as part of the Visiting Artists program. During their two-week visit they will participate in classes, work with musicians and students interested in oral history, and present a talk at 3 p.m. Oct. 30 on oral history and the Appalachian culture. They also will perform during an RCAH Quilting Bee session Nov. 3.
The couple operates Talking Across the Lines: Worldwide Conversations, LLC, a folk-life documentary consulting and production firm. With the help of students and community interns, they give voice to a wide range of views on historical and current events.
Michael Kline holds a doctorate in public folklore from Boston University, and Carrie Kline has a master’s degree in American studies from the State University of New York-Buffalo.
