EAST LANSING, Mich. – “Vet-A-Visit,” the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s annual open house, will take place Saturday, April 8, at the Veterinary Medical Center.

The doors will open at 9 a.m., admission is free and preregistration is not required.

This year there will be more than 50 interactive exhibits and demonstrations that will illustrate veterinary medical care for a wide range of animals, including one titled “You’re the Vet” in which visitors test their knowledge of animal care.

There also will be a number of “how to” sessions in which visitors will learn how to milk a cow, select a puppy and tell the age of a horse by its teeth.

Also returning this year is one of Vet-A-Visit’s more popular exhibits, the Stuffed Animal Clinic, in which student doctors repair stuffed animals, as well as collect new stuffed animals for local charities.

Other event highlights include opportunities to listen to a sheep’s heart and watch a horse run on a treadmill; a petting zoo; and demonstrations of dressage, a special form of horseback riding that involves subtle and intricate moves by the horse and rider. Dressage is also an Olympic event.

Visitors interested in becoming a veterinarian or veterinary technician can obtain information about academic requirements and career opportunities from students and college representatives.

The Veterinary Medical Center is located at the corner of Bogue Street and Wilson Road on the MSU campus.
