EAST LANSING, Mich. - In conjunction with an extensive and effective community policing effort that continues to enhance crime prevention at Michigan State University, MSU police today released statistics for the 2002 year as part of an ongoing commitment to inform the campus community of safety and security issues.
The annual crime statistics and security report are available online at www.msu.edu/dig/safety/
The posting of this information is in compliance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. Statistics indicate the number of reports of crimes on campus over a three-year period, covering 2000 to 2002.
Over the three-year reporting period, liquor law and drug law violations declined. Reports of aggravated assault and motor vehicle theft also dropped. The overall crime rate shows little change over the reporting period.
Since MSU pioneered community policing in 1987, overall crime has declined 38 percent. Overall felony crime is 65 percent lower over the same period.
