The Intellectual Property & Communications Law Program at Michigan State University-DCL College of Law is hosting the first annual Intellectual Property & Communications Law and Policy Scholars Roundtable on Friday and Saturday Feb. 20 and 21 at the Law College Building on the MSU campus.
The roundtable has attracted intellectual property and communications law and policy scholars from around the world, including Canada, China, Israel and the United Kingdom.
"This roundtable brings together two interrelated areas of the law and will provide the participants with a unique experience that allows them to receive feedback from their peers on their latest research while developing ideas in a collaborative setting,” said Peter Yu, organizer of the event and director of the MSU-DCL Intellectual Property & Communications Law Program.
In addition to law professors, participants include scholars from other disciplines, such as business administration, communications studies, history and political science. Participants will present their works-in-progress, addressing issues that range from copyright and moral rights protection to patent law, and from privacy and anonymity to antitrust law.
“My own work always benefits from critical feedback by scholars who bring different perspectives and concerns to my research, and that’s why the number and variety of scholars participating in the roundtable is important and valuable,” added Adam Mossoff, who teaches patent law at MSU-DCL.
The MSU-DCL Intellectual Property & Communications Law Program (IPCLP) was established to promote global, interdisciplinary understanding of intellectual property and communications law. Aligned closely with colleges and research centers at MSU and the distinguished intellectual property and technology law faculty at the University of Ottawa, IPCLP offers an innovative curriculum, an intellectual property and communications law externship program, joint J.D./LL.B. and other multi-degree options, and study abroad opportunities in Canada and Mexico. The Program also sponsors ground-breaking symposia, lectures and career panels; hosts distinguished speakers and internationally recognized experts; and publishes an Occasional Papers series.
MSU-DCL College of Law affiliated with Michigan State University in 1995 but remains the oldest continuously operating independent law school in the country, founded in Detroit in 1890. MSU-DCL affiliated with MSU to extend its academic excellence and provide a greater variety of interdisciplinary programs for its students. The law college resides on the MSU campus in East Lansing, Mich.
