University officials were notified on Monday, Sept. 15, that 10 students had become ill and sought help over the past several days for persistent symptoms of bloody diarrhea.

Seven people were hospitalized and all are expected to recover. The university has taken appropriate action in line with Ingham County Health Department instruction.

Immediately upon becoming aware of the cases, the university notified the health department for determination of the cause and source of the illness. The Office of the University Physician is working with the Health Department in the investigation.

We ask that if you have eaten in a university facility and have developed diarrhea or bloody diarrhea since Sept. 8, that you contact your physician for care, as well as the Ingham County Health Department to assist in the determination of the cause of the illness. Contact the health department at (517) 887-4308.

MSU students can also access care at the MSU Student Health Center at Olin at (517) 353-4660.
