The Michigan State University Community Music School hosted its Be-a-Star Showcase June 13 in the Community Music School auditorium, 841-B Timberlane Street in East Lansing.
The showcase concluded the three-day, seventh annual Eric ‘RicStar' Winter Music Therapy Camp, which started June 11. The camp is named in honor of 12-year-old Eric Winter, a seven-year music therapy client from DeWitt who had cerebral palsy and passed away in 2003.
The day camp provides opportunities for musical expression, enjoyment and interaction for all people with special needs and their siblings.
"Each year it gets bigger, and it grows and gets better because we keep improving it each year," said Cindy Edgerton, director of music therapy clinical services at the Community Music School. "Our camp fills up in March, unfortunately because there are not other camps like this out there."
The Be-a-Star Showcase allowed the campers to show what they learned during the camp.
"My favorite part of camp is seeing the campers achieve in skills that they need to make their lives much easier in the future," Edgerton said.
