Cynthia Ghering, director of the university archives and historical collections at Michigan State University, has been elected to a three-year term on the Michigan Women’s Studies Association board of directors.
Prior to joining MSU Ghering was the assistant director of the curatorial and collections services department of the Ohio Historical Society.
Joyce Ladenson, professor emerita of writing, rhetoric and American cultures, women’s studies and Jewish studies, and director of the Women’s Studies program at MSU from 1988 to 2001, was one of four women named to the board in April.
The Michigan Women’s Studies Association, established in 1973, seeks to improve what is taught and thought about women in Michigan’s schools, colleges, and universities.
As an extension of its academic work, the association founded the Michigan Women’s Historical Center in Lansing, where changing galleries highlight women’s history and art and the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame commemorates nearly 250 women past and present.
Photographs, biographical sketches, and lesson plans relating to the Hall of Fame honorees may also be viewed online at www.michiganwomenshalloffame.org.
