Step back in time during a tour of the W.K. Kellogg Manor House, located on picturesque Gull Lake near Hickory Corners. On Sept. 13 the Manor will be open for tours from 1 to 4 p.m. with the last tour beginning at 4 p.m. Reservations are not necessary. Tours begin every 20 to 30 minutes and last about one hour.
Tour fees are $5 for adults and $4 for senior citizens and students 6-18.
Built in 1925-26, the Kellogg Manor House is a classic example of Tudor Revival architecture with leaded glass bay windows, quarter-sawn oak coffered ceilings, a hand-carved stairway and beautiful Rookwood tile fireplaces and bathrooms. Built 110 feet above Gull Lake, this 32-acre estate includes a carriage house with chauffeur’s cottage, a boathouse, an authentic Dutch windmill, a lakeside pagoda and several beautiful gardens. Although these additional buildings are not open for tours, guests may walk or drive the grounds to see them.
The next Manor House tour date is Oct. 4.
The W. K. Kellogg Manor House is located at the Michigan State University Kellogg Biological Station’s Academic Center near Hickory Corners at 3700 East Gull Lake Dr. From M-89, take 40th St. north to B Ave. Follow B Ave. one mile west.
