EAST LANSING, Mich. -- A public diplomacy expert will visit Michigan State University on Nov. 10 to explain how academia can help improve the global image of the United States.

Cari E. Guittard, a nationally recognized expert on cross-culture communication, will host a lecture titled, "U.S. Public Diplomacy and Global Engagement, Diplomatic Action and Public-Private Partnerships: Where Do We Go from Here?" The lecture will begin at 2:30 p.m. in room 115 of MSU's International Center. The free lecture is designed for MSU faculty and staff but is open to the public.

Guittard, executive director of the consulting firm Business for Diplomatic Action, believes America has lost the worldwide respect she said it used to enjoy. A former computer security specialist for the U.S. State Department, she now travels the globe to determine ways in which the U.S. business community — from college professors to CEOs to airport personnel — can help enhance America's reputation.

The lecture was made possible through the support of Michigan Council on Citizen Diplomacy.
